Over the past few years there has been a great deal of controversy over the subject of gobal warming or climate change, with numerous leading scientists and political figures having entirely opposing views on the subject.Nevertheless, one thing is definitively certain, the Globe’s natural resources do need looking after, and regardless of your perspective on the climate change fiasco, the limited resources that we have taken for granted for so long will gradually run out unless of course we carry out some significant modifications to our lifstyle, and start looking to renewable forms of energy.

Recently, numerous government authorities have provided monetary incentives to consumers and corporations who make investments into renewable energy sources, such as solar power and wind energy. Unfortunatly the initial expense may turn out to be a little costly for a large number of consumers. It will certainly come down in price in the long term as new materials and methods of manufacturing are identified, sadly until then it continues to be a stumbling block for a lot of individuals.

The price of energy continues to increase, and is consuming a larger part of a families disposable income. As the population increases there will be an accelerated demand for energy and as a consequnce prices will increase even further. This does not even include the prospect of suppliers from various other international locations restricting supplies because of regional tensions or even home demand.

Until eventually the day does come when home energy is the norm, knowledgeable consumers are looking to generate their own energy requirements by setting up their own solar power systems and wind generators. There are a selection of excellent do it yourself home energy publications that demonstrate in detail how an individual can easily become practically self sufficient in energy, and in many circumstances can actually make money by simply selling surplus energy back to the utility companies.

In recent years there has been much debate over the issue of gobal warming or climate change, with many top scientists and politicians having completely opposing views on the matter. However, one thing is absolutely certain, the World’s resources do need looking after, and irrespective of your point of view on the whole climate change fiasco, the finite resources that we have taken for granted for so long will eventually run out unless we make some serious changes, and look to alternative forms of energy.

In recent years many governments have given monetary incentives to individuals and companies who invest in alternative energy sources, such as solar power and wind energy. At the present time the initial outlay may still prove to be a little expensive for many people. It will no doubt come down in price in the future as new materials and methods of manufacturing are discovered, but until then it remains a stumbling block for a lot of people.

The cost of energy continues to rise and is taking a larger bite out of a families disposable income. As the population increases there will be an increased demand and as a consequnce prices will rise even further. This does not even include the possibility of suppliers from other countries restricting supplies due to local tensions or home demand.

Until the day when home energy is the norm savvy individuals are looking to produce their own energy requirements by building their own solar systems and wind turbines and there are a number of good diy home energy guides that show in detail how someone can become virtually self sufficient in energy and in some cases can actually make money by selling excess energy back to the utility companies.

Turn on any television or log onto any news website on the internet and you are bound to hear about global warming and alternative energy sources. Alternative energy is currently developing at a rapid pace and one of the biggest and most popular forms is solar power. So what is solar power?

Solar power is a method of taking the power of the sun and transforming it into energy. Mother nature has been using solar power for millions of years to heat and power the earth reliably and effectively. This natural solar energy can be transformed into cleanly produced electricity or heat for use by anyone anywhere. So how is solar power being utilized around the globe?

Common Sun Power Methods

Photovoltaic Solar Energy: This method involves the use of special solar panels that absorb the sunlight and though a series of events produce electricity for your home, car or office building. It is by far the most popular form of solar power in use today and will continue to be developed and implemented around the globe.

Indirect Solar Heating: Many new homes and office buildings are being designed with indirect solar heating in mind. With this method the rays from the sun are magnified through special windows that transfer and hold in the heat. This method basically mimics the way the earth is heated and it is a very efficient and popular method to reduce the cost of energy bills.

Solar Powered Turbines: A newer method of sun power generation is the solar turbine. With this method a liquid is heated with solar energy and the steam will spin a turbine that produces electricity. Although relatively new this method does show promise in certain areas of the world.

With rising energy prices and the threat of environmental damage from fossil fuels alternative energy is the wave of the future. As science and private industry invest more time and money into research the possibility of mainstream power from the sun is a real possibility.

A large number of households are turning to residential solar energy to meet their energy needs. This makes a lot of sense as by replacing traditional energy sources with solar energy consumers stand to make large financial savings as well as helping the environment recover from the global warming crisis we face.

Due to the large expense involved in purchasing a retail solar power system and having it installed (costs are usually upwards of $2000) a lot of households are choosing to build their own systems for a fraction of the cost (around $200). These systems are built entirely using readily available components, which you assemble by following an instruction guide you can purchase online.

So why should you build your own DIY solar power kit?

Cost saving: let’s face it in this day and age we could all do with a little extra cash, implementing a DIY Solar Power kit will not only save you thousands of dollars off a retail system but you will also reap the benefit of using cost free energy.

Environment: Solar energy is one of the cleanest forms of energy man can produce, giving off no harmful by-products and helping out the environment by replacing traditional, environmentally damaging energy resources.

Fun and educational: It’s a fun project you can get your family and friends involved in, it will also help raise awareness in your family and community about environmental issues and energy conservation

You can configure your house to be totally solar dependant, or alternatively convert your house to use a hybrid system for its energy needs. A hybrid system is when you compliment traditional energy sources with some solar. This is ideal for people wanting to be a little more liberal with their energy usage, without paying more money or damaging the environment further.

By itself, the Southern California Edison deal is the world’s largest solar energy deal.

The plants being built are bigger, but will be more cost effective to build than most other new plants. These kind of solar thermal plants are cheaper to build than coal plants, cheaper than gas plants, and they’re building them a lot faster.

As Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an environmental advocate for the past 25 years, has said, “Once the plants are up and running, the energy is free forever. We won’t have to go to Saudi Arabia and drill holes in the ground, then pump the oil up, and then refine it, and then ship it across the Atlantic with a military escort, and get in periodic wars in Mesopotamia and other places, and then have to distribute the oil across the country.

The electrons are hitting our country for free… coming down from the Sun for free, every day. If we build these plants to pick up the electrons, and the infrastructure to deliver them, we can put them into our lines… And if we are to build this out across the country, we can provide 100% of the energy needs in this country, in conjunction with other clean power sources, for about 750 billion dollars.”

Kennedy makes the point that 750 billion is less than the amount of dollars we export to purchase foreign oil each and every year. “Taxpayers involuntarily gave 700 billion dollars to Wall Street, and everybody believes it will take generations to pay back. But actually, it will only take just one year, without our financial expenditure for foreign oil.”

What we need to make this work is a straightforward market place. That’s what Americans demand. We need an open marketplace that does what a market is supposed to do, which is to reward good behavior, which is efficiency, and punish bad behavior, which is inefficiency and waste.

Today we have a market that is rigged to favor the dirtiest, filthiest, most poisonous, most expensive fuels from hell. We need to design a marketplace that rewards the clean, cheap, fuels from heaven. We can do this very quickly. For instance, in 1979 America started a national grid, a nat
1000
ional backbone for the internet. In 1980, there were fewer than 500 personal computers in this country and IBM was saying it was a dead end technology. Well now, every American has a PC, because we had a marketplace. Look at the effect that has had on the cost of information. It has plummeted to almost nothing. That same thing will happen with the cost of electrons if we follow through and build a national grid for electricity in this country.

Here’s another example, in 1996, President Clinton signed the Telecommunications Act which opened up the telecommunications grid and spawned a national, and worldwide telecommunications revolution. That’s why we have an Ipod. Today there are companies that can provide unlimited long distance and local calling for $18 a year. That’s what is going to happen to the cost of energy, if we build a national marketplace that operates in a straightforward manner.

We need to make sure that the market rules are aligned with our national interests, and with the global interest of saving our planet. We need to make sure that our utility companies can make money by getting their consumers to conserve energy, and that their profits are not dependent upon them selling as much energy as possible. And then we need to open up the grid so that everyone can get on it. If you have a solar panel on your roof, and you’re not home for one part of the day, and your house is generating more energy than it’s using, you ought to be able to sell that energy back to the grid and get market rates for it. But there is no state where you can do that today. Thirty six states will buy it back from you, but all of them limit how much, and none of them will give you the market rate.

If we follow through with these fundamentals, we will make every American into an energy entrepreneur, every home into a power plant, and we can power this country from American initiative and entrepreneurship of energy, rather than Saudi oil.

It was good news for renewable energy industry when the congress passed bill to extend energy grants to 8 more years. Since then the renewable energy is growing day by day. Solar energy and wind energy are most popular application of alternative energy. Many people are relying on these sources to generate electricity for their home. The limitation with wind turbines is that they need large place to install. On the other hand the solar panels can be mounted on any place as long as it gets direct sun light. That’s why the solar energy is more popular then wind energy.

Solar products are the easiest form of using solar energy in day to day life. A solar gadget like solar powered attic fan, solar tubular skylight helps homeowners and businesses to reduce their energy bill. These products help reduces the carbon footprint and the environment too. The growing demand of solar products needs more production. Because of that the supply of certified installers or professionals is in demand.

The economy meltdown made many people lose jobs. Many industries are falling apart making it difficult to survive. The jobless people are considering changing career. The economists predict that in the future the solar industry will rise more than today and it will need more professionals.

To fulfill future demand of certified installers or professionals the universities and institutions are offering various courses. Many schools in the world are adding solar education and global warming in their school curriculum. Many institutes offer online courses and webinars to get started the career in solar industry.

Online classes are offered by many institutions that help to start career in this fast growing industry. Online courses are fully comprehensive and teach design, installation and maintenance of solar power systems. The certification courses are designed to educate the students about the basics of solar power, PV installer certification and solar thermal certification.

Solar energy for residential houses is nothing new. It has just been relegated to the background in lieu of rising cost of real estate; newer more advanced.

As you can see from the pros and cons of solar energy the advantages of harnessing solar power as an alternative energy source far outweigh the disadvantages. The cost of setting up solar power systems is quickly recouped, and over time …
